The upcoming release of ScrewDrivers® v7.2 is just around the corner and contains new features, updates, and more. Let's take a look at some of the upgrades coming to scanning which will include scanning for Linux clients.
Simplified Scanning for Linux Clients
Since the early days of Tricerat, where we pioneered the first virtual print driver for remote desktops, client printing and scanning has been at the core of our products. Initially Windows-only, ScrewDrivers Endpoint expanded to other platforms with a client for macOS and Linux. Now, ScrewDrivers Scanning is taking the same step by offering users on Linux clients the ability to virtualize their local scanner for applications running on a remote desktop.
ScrewDrivers Scanning for Linux leverages the SANE API on Linux systems to communicate with the local scanner. The Tricerat client and server work together through the virtual channels of the remote desktop protocol (ICA or RDP) to provide details of the scanner to the virtual driver and pass scan image data quickly and securely to the remote server. ScrewDrivers Scanning removes the need for driver management on VDI or remote desktop systems, and gives users consistency and improved performance when compared to basic USB redirection.
With the release of a Linux client for ScrewDrivers Scanning, the product will continue to see enhancements and functionality as a comprehensive management platform for scanning in remote desktops. While the client can already be deployed to any Debian-based OS (e.g. Ubuntu), Tricerat will be adding packages for our Linux-based thin-client partners. ScrewDrivers Scanning client is included as part of ScrewDrivers Essentials and is also included with ScrewDrivers Pro and ScrewDrivers Enterprise product tiers. Check out our page covering the benefits of a universal virtual scanning driver for even more details on streamlining your scanning operations.
