For starters, VMware's ThinPrint only supports printing from printers redirected from a local workstations into a Horizon remote session. For a driverless solution with VMware, the only option is client printer redirected printing. VMware's ThinPrint does not have the functionality for driverless printing from print servers. Tricerat offers client printer redirected printing and print server printers in a driverless environment, with more robust functionality. Additionally, Tricerat adds both encryption and compression to all print jobs across the wire utilizing Tricerat's TMF proprietary format.
Tricerat also offers workstation printing, support for advanced print features such as collating, print and release, and stapling, as well as centralized management. VMware has some administration management available, and print management is highly limited, and ease of use is lacking. Tricerat's console offers centralized management, with a single-pane of glass view, and better options for printer assignments. This ensures printers get assigned to the correct users and locations that they need to be, efficiently and quickly.
Tricerat also has support for Mac, mobile devices, thin client and zero clients. VMware OEM ThinPrint only supports client printer redirected printing.
