Written by Andrew Parlette, CTO | Nov 22, 2019 9:02:34 PM

Tricerat is excited to announce the upcoming availability of the ScrewDrivers Client for Linux print management. Tricerat’s print management software has always provided excellent capability for administrators needing to manage network printers for users connecting from thin clients, but previously only Windows Embedded devices could connect to client printers. With the new ScrewDrivers client for Linux print management, all Linux endpoints with locally connected printers can now be automatically accessed from the virtual desktop through Tricerat’s best-in-class virtual print driver.

Technical Details

ScrewDrivers Client for Linux print management was developed primarily for Ubuntu 18.04 and should work on any Debian-based distributions that use CUPS. The client supports plugins for Citrix ICA, VMware Horizon, and FreeRDP. ScrewDrivers interfaces with the CUPS system to get information about local printers, sends that information to the virtual desktop running the ScrewDrivers virtual driver, and then manages print jobs from virtual desktops to the thin client and to the printer through CUPS.

Thin Clients

Any thin client that uses Ubuntu or other Debian-based Linux can work with the ScrewDrivers Client for Linux. These include:

Even if you’ve rolled-your-own solution on a Raspberry PiIntel NUC, or other hardware, the Tricerat client can now connect your local printers to the remote desktop with ease. And only Tricerat’s software can combine client-connected printers, print server printers, serverless network printers, and mobile device printing all from one simple management interface.

A Complete Solution

The addition of this client provides a complete set of platform compatibility for Tricerat's print management software. With one solution, and one management interface, administrators can easily manage printer assignments to users and simplify driver management across the full range of windows desktops and applications. Tricerat software can combine local printers from desktops, Linux thin clients, or macOS alongside print server printers and serverless network printers. For users with mobile devices, the latest v6 version can enable printing from all print server printers to Android and iOS. No matter the device or requirement, Tricerat enables printing for all your users.
