I have often wondered how well information was shared within the IT world. BriForum is a unique event - where vendors, resellers and administrators alike can gather and discuss anything from software to common issues that plague the industry. This was the 8th annual BriForum, but my excitement comes as this is my first year attending.
As I've mentioned in my previous blog, administrators often inherit an environment that can be improved upon. In many cases the issues that administrators face are not hardware-related, but arise from environment management software, or the lack thereof. One of the main purposes of this blog entry is to get an understanding of what administrators want when it comes to managing their users.
Sometimes system administrators catch a break and he or she are able to play a crucial role in building the infrastructure for a company. Whether it be one user or 30 users, it can be quite simple to manage everything from user profiles to user printers. But what if you, like the majority of IT administrators, inherit someone else’s IT nightmare?
From an end user's perspective, all printing consists of is pressing the 'print' button. If only it were that simple. For your document to actually come out in a Terminal and Citrix server world, several things must take place that end users are unaware of. In one example, administrators must maintain duplicate printer drivers from client to server. If there is any incongruence with the printer driver, end users simply cannot print.
