A Quick Thought on Desktop and Application Security
October 20, 2001

The corporate computing environment has changed dramatically over the last few years, and the Internet is now an essential business resource, giving employees access to powerful applications and downloads. This is helpful as it makes work easier, but can ultimately introduce new security challenges for the IT department. Current security issues caused by an increasing number of malware threats, application vulnerabilities, and the growing complexity of computing environments are making the usual approaches to system maintenance and support very difficult to manage and ultimately fix. This increased access can negatively impact the cost and frequency of security issues, so much so that some anti-virus solutions are not powerful enough to properly protect the network infrastructure.

Some companies, including triCerat, have created software that can identify and block known and unknown threats automatically, and prevent unknown applications (such as spyware, key loggers, and hacking tools) from launching.
